It's all Greek to me :)

This past weekend was full of festivals in our surrounding area. Let's see.... there was the Rice festival, the Cajun catfish festival, the Greek festival and the Renaissance festival. We chose the Greek Festival. I was so looking forward to it but ended up a bit disappointed. The food was great with no complaints there, but the crowd was too much. There wasn't enough seating for people who purchased meals. People were sitting on the sidewalks, the grassy areas, stairs and anywhere where they could find to sit. All day you could hear people saying excuse me, oh sorry or can I get through. I think next year we'll pass on the Greek Festival and try the Cajun Catfish Festival. Here are a few photo's from this past weekend. Enjoy!

Another wedding

I'm so happy for Marlene, I think this time she'll really go through with it. It's to David, but it's always been David. This past Christmas she called off her engagement, last week she decided to move forward with the wedding. Here's the thing, the wedding date is set for May 15th..... yep it's next month. We tried to tell her that though it can be done, it's just a really busy month.
This is what's happening from this week moving forward till the wedding date, none of it having anything to do with the wedding.
Her mom has surgery this week. Next week the mom travels to pick up her mom (who will be staying with her indefinitely). A few days after her mom returns, Marlene graduates from college. On the 14th, Marlene has her commissioning ceremony. She will officially become an officer in the Air Force.
Crazy crazy girl.
My daughter is her matron of honor who has a busy schedule at work. So I have another round of helping throw a quick bridal shower together which is May 1st. We've decided on a Garden themed bridal shower, this weekend my daughter and I have completed the shower invites and are waiting on the guest list. We've already purchased the supplies for the favors except for the M & M's. The shower cake has been ordered, I'm also going to attempt to make the following.
I was thinking of getting individual baby pots, putting styrofoam at the bottom, topping it with green M & M's, tying raffia around the pot with one flower (cookie) or just making 4 larger decorative pots with a half dozen cookies in each. I don't know, we'll see how it goes.
The way I see it, it's gonna be fast and furious and I'm glad I'm not the mother of the bride. Knowing the bride it'll turn out beautiful.
When we're done with Marlene, we have Tracy, Tracy is getting engaged at the end of this month, I think she plans on getting married before the end of this year. And the last of the girls will be Kristina. Kristina will have a long engagement because she's a planner and will want an intimate but very pretty girly wedding. Well let's take this one at a time. For now, I'll keep you updated on all of this.
See you in a few! :)

Yummy Guava Cake

Today my daughter turned 28 and I decided to try my hand at making a guava cake. I've never made a guava cake before and I was scared to death. Not only was it my first attempt, but I had to tweak the recipe. I have to say that it taste better than it looked.

Yummy!

Family

I live in Florida with my husbands family near by, my family lives in Hawaii. I was bummed that none of the family here in Florida wanted to get together for Easter. In Hawaii, my family always gets together for all holidays. When my niece posted pictures on facebook of their Easter get together, I was sooo jealous. I miss them a lot and I wish I was there. I haven't done my twice yearly jaunt back home yet and I guess it's about time I do. I hope y'all enjoyed your weekend and that you have a fabulous week!

Rainy day outing

The players:
J & J = my husbands brother & his lovely wife
Chuck & Barb = my husband & I
J sprained his ankle in a volleyball game this past Tuesday. Instead of having it checked out, he walked and worked on it for the rest of the week. Can we all say insane? Like a good boy, he did stay off his foot all day Saturday. Today rolls around and he's a bit stir crazy, he gives us a call to see what was on today's agenda. Hmmm nothing.... it's raining.
According to J, that was no excuse and said he and J were on there way over.
Not a problem.. we ended up going to the movies, the guys saw Green Zone which they loved and J and I saw Bounty Hunter, to me, what you see in the trailers are about the best parts in the movie. I love collecting DVD's, Bounty Hunter will probably not be in my collection.
Then off to dinner at Beef O'Brady's (sports bar) the husbands wanted to catch the basketball games, unfortunately, we just missed our game but we did hear that our team won. Woot Woot!

I pulled a dad move this morning

If my dad were alive today and saw me do what I did, I would totally be busted and he would be laughing at me.
I had my usual breakfast this morning of coffee and toast. I placed the toast on a piece of papertowel, grabbed the book I was reading and began to eat my toast. When I was done, I went to the trash can, shook out the papertowel, folded it and placed it in a dish for use for another time. While I was doing that, I was thinking to myself no sense in throwing it away it only had a few crumbs.
Just after putting it into the dish, I thought oh oh that was totally a dad move and thought. I shook my head and smiled. I always thought that that was an old persons move. Hmmm am I showing my age?
Another dad move was to tear a sheet of papertowel off the roll then tear it in half. I asked him why he did that and his response was.."it's to big, I don't need a big piece just half." Well you know they now make papertowels in various sizes and you tear what you need. Hmm I guess my dad had something there way back in the day.
Have a nice day all!

A Beautiful Weekend

Ahhh can you smell it? Spring is just around the corner and most of the country is ready for fresh air and new blooms.
My husband and I ran around town this past weekend checking out the local happenings. It was such a pretty spring day I couldn't help but take tons of pictures.
My husband and I moved to this city 2 years ago and I have to say, I just love it here. We decided to rent rather than purchase for a couple of reasons. One, we weren't sure of the town and the other.... we weren't sure that once he finished his schooling if Florida is where we would hunker down. But I really love this area, the subdivision is in the upper end of the town and it's surrounded by farms..... horses, cows and a few growers.
Enjoy the pictures of my weekend.
